A
villa in Vilamoura was our home base while touring Portugal. Vilamoura
is a lovely seaside town, not far from Faro, and a leisurely bus ride
from Gilbralter. |

The
seaside in Vilamoura shelters the spirit. The marina is filled with
fabulous motor yachts and sailing vessels. The beaches are a vacationer's
dream. And the shops and restaurants are all treats. |
Visiting southern towns in Portugal brings a sense of peace and delight. We traveled from East to West, from Faro through Albufiera to Sagres. We viewed medieval Europe's End-of-the-Word at Point Conception and walked through Henry the Navigator's school for explorers.

In summer the
southern coast of Portugal is a beautiful, sunny stretch of rugged cliffs, sheltered coves, and mysterious caves well worth exploring. We chose a day voyage on a catamaran to enjoy it. |
Lisbon, Portugal is a large, important city with many historical landmarks and cultural events. We had time to visit only a portion of the old center, but found the city wonderfully peaceful and attractive.
